"Serve the Lord with Gladness"
Sunshine Guild
The duties and responsibilities of the Sunshine Guild are to share the love of God
and the love and concern of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League
of First Lutheran Church of Venice by:
- Sending birthday greetings to all active LWML members, honorary members, Pastor Ken and Christine, former Pastor Jim Johnson and Becky, First Lutheran school teachers, and First Lutheran LWML supported missionaries and their families.
- Sending "cheer and hello" cards on a monthly basis to shut-in congregational members.
- Sending get well cards, sympathy cards and words of comfort, special anniversary cards and wishes, etc., as needed to LWML and congregational members.
- Sending cans of cookies at Christmas time to congregational members who are in the armed forces, etc.
Hospitality Guild
The main mission of the Hospitality Guild is to provide meals for
families at the time of their bereavement. This usually means a
meal for the family and friends after the funeral or memorial
service which provides a place to greet each other and share in the
healing process.
The guild also provides food for anyone just home from the hospital or members that need that service.
Wedding receptions are provided when requested.
On other occasions
when kitchen help is needed, the Hospitality Guild is there to lend
a helping hand.
Braille
Hannah Guild
The guild also makes
lovely seasonal items that are sold at their Christmas and Easter
boutiques. The money raised on these occasions is put into the LWML
treasury and used for our many mission projects.
Lutheran World Relief
People are needed to
cut squares, sew tops, and provide used sheets for the linings of
the quilts.
Rummage Sales
Please make certain
that items you donate for the rummage sales are clean and in
"sellable" condition.
Save! Save! Save!
Mite boxes are
available for you to collect your loose change in; then bring to
church or an LWML meeting when they are full. Mighty things are
done with these MITES in the mission fields right close by in our
area as well as in all parts of the United States and in many
foreign lands. Pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters all make up the
MIGHTY MITES that spread God's Word and do His work.
Other Fund Raisers
Sizzler Night
-
Join together at Sizzler Steak House for fun, fellowship and good food.
We earn a percentage of the total sales for the evening.
Jeopardy
and
Wheel of Fortune
-
We enjoy attending the filming of
these popular TV game shows and raise $10.00 per person. They are
filmed in Culver City.
A group of ladies
travels to Manhattan Beach on the first Tuesday of each month to
assemble Braille books for Lutheran Braille Workers. These books
are provided free of charge by LBW to any blind or sight impaired
person that requests them. After their hard work, the group enjoys
lunch together before returning home.
The Hannah Guild meets
on the third Monday of each month in one of the member's homes. You
do not have to come to the meetings to work on the projects; in
fact, most of the ladies work at home at their convenience. They
create all kinds of beautiful handicraft items to be sold at the
annual Fall Festival held in late October.
The main function of
this group is the making of beautiful quilts. There is no monthly
meeting. They work all year long cutting squares and sewing them
together to make the tops of the quilts. Then they meet in July to
put all the quilts together. They are delivered each October to
Lutheran World Relief
for distribution to needy families throughout the world.
Our ladies (and men)
hold rummage sales on the average of four times a year. Items are
collected from our church families and friends. Set up is the
Friday night before the sale when all the items are sorted and put
out on tables ready to be carried out to the playground on Saturday
morning. Strong men are needed for this job as well as after the
sale when the tables must all be carried back inside.
Please help us save
cancelled postage stamps (trimmed ¼ inch around the stamp);
Campbell soup labels; Swanson product labels; and your loose change
which we call MITES.
Throughout the year we
organize other fund raisers to build our treasury to do the Lord's
work.
